Culture & values

How we work, and what we won't compromise.

We're a media company and a software company in the same room. Our culture comes from that — the rigor of great editorial, the velocity of a small engineering team, and a shared belief that local matters.

Core values

Five things
we hold to.

Not posters on a wall — the standards we hire, review, and make decisions against.

01

Move at the speed of discomfort

If the pace feels comfortable, we're going too slow. Comfort is the warning light, not the goal — whether you're sitting on a deploy or sitting on a story.

02

Show your work

Back every claim with evidence — sourcing for a story, tests and reasoning for a feature, data for a call. Assert nothing you can't support. It's also the product in miniature: we show our work to the audience, so of course we show it to each other.

03

Own the miss

When you're wrong, say so first and loudest. A shipped bug, a blown estimate, a botched fact — the correction is as visible as the error was. Quietly patching it doesn't count.

04

Spend where it compounds

Money, time, and effort all count here. Pour into what stacks — reusable systems, coverage depth, automation — and starve what evaporates. The discipline isn't frugality, it's discernment.

05

The best way isn't built yet

The leverage we have today broke the old math — how a newsroom staffs, how software gets built, how any of it gets done. Don't copy the recipe. Go invent the better one, because it doesn't exist yet.

Come build

If this is how you like to work, we should talk.
